Meet the Team
Things might be a bit different, but we're still the same great place you know and love!
Jack and Jacques first met in 2023, became friends, and then became colleagues in 2025 when Jack made the rookie mistake of hiring Jacques at the bar. It was a baffling decision to many.
Over many drinks on both sides of the bar, they joked about what they could do if they were in charge. Then, in September of 2025 they went on a cruise to Bermuda with 14 of their closest friends. After one too many Blue Hawaiians on the pool deck, Jack turned to Jacques and said, "Are we really gonna do this?"
With over two decades of combined experience in the public and private industry bar industry, they're excited to try new things while remaining committed to Mixer's established legacy of being a safe and inclusive space for Baltimore's queer community.
Jack Thompson
Jack was International Mister Leather in 2019. He is the dungeon matster and creator of Adventures in Leather, a group that runs DnD games for charity. He has been an advocate for the HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ community for over 20 years, a bartender for a decade, and a bar manager since early 2026.
Jacques Van Der Walt
An immigrant from South Africa, Jacques grew up in the restaurant industry, serving and bartending in his family restaurant. After a nearly two decade career as a forensic auditor, he decided to go back to his roots and founded ThristTrap Bartenders, a queer-owned private bartending service. In 2026 he partnered with Jack in taking over Mixers.
Our Events
The Longest Running Drag Show in Baltimore
Join us the third Saturday of every month for Baltimore's longest running drag show, hosted by Victoria Blair! Victoria is a well-loved member of the Mixers family and does a stellar job hosting her monthly show and our two yearly pageants.
Eagle in Exile
Every Sunday we host “Eagle in Exile,” honoring all Eagle bars across the globe that are no longer around. Join us for fundraiser for local organizations, clubs, teams, or titleholders, as well as a leather social/cigar party.
The leather community welcomes everyone at our events and so does Mixers.
